Monster a Go-Go! is a 1965 American science-fiction horror film directed by Bill Rebane and Herschell Gordon Lewis (who remained uncredited in association with this film). The film is considered to be one of the worst films ever fabricated.
Plot [edit]
The plot concerns an American astronaut, Frank Douglas, who mysteriously disappears from his spacecraft equally it parachutes to Globe. The policemen in i scene audit the landing site of Douglas's capsule and notice a burned patch, only to dismiss information technology as a prank. The vanished astronaut is apparently replaced by or turned into a large, radioactive, humanoid monster. This is revealed when it comes into the scene and kills off Dr. Logan. A team of scientists and military men besides attempts to capture the monster – and at one point succeed and imprison it in the lab, but to take information technology escape. Neither the capture nor the escape is e'er shown, and both are only mentioned by the narrator.
At the finish of the film, the scientists corner the monster in a sewer under Chicago, just the monster suddenly disappears. The scientists receive a telegram stating that Douglas is in fact alive and well, having been rescued in the North Atlantic, perhaps implying the monster was an alien impersonating Douglas. The narrator provides the film's closing dialogue:
Equally if a switch had been turned, every bit if an heart had been blinked, equally if some phantom strength in the universe had made a move eons beyond our comprehension, all of a sudden, there was no trail! There was no giant, no monster, no thing chosen "Douglas" to exist followed. There was cipher in the tunnel but the puzzled men of courage, who suddenly found themselves alone with shadows and darkness! With the telegram, 1 cloud lifts, and some other descends. Astronaut Frank Douglas, rescued, alive, well, and of normal size, some 8,000 miles abroad in a lifeboat, with no retention of where he has been, or how he was separated from his sheathing! Then who, or what, has landed here? Is it hither yet? Or has the cosmic switch been pulled? Case in signal: The line between science fiction and science fact is microscopically sparse! You accept witnessed the line beingness shaved fifty-fifty thinner! Just is the menace with us? Or is the monster gone?

Production [edit]
The motion picture had an unusual production history.[two] Managing director Rebane ran out of money while making the flick. Herschell Gordon Lewis, who needed a 2d film to show with his ain feature, Moonshine Mountain, bought the film, added a few actress scenes, included some new dialogue, and so released information technology, creating an odd, disjointed film with piffling continuity. Rebane had abandoned the moving picture in 1961; Lewis did not finish the film until 1965, and then he was unable to get together all of the original bandage, resulting in almost half the characters disappearing midway through the pic to be replaced by other characters who fill most of the same roles. One of the actors Lewis was able to rehire had dramatically changed his look in the intervening years, necessitating his playing the blood brother of the original character. At one signal, when a phone supposedly rings, the audio effect is obviously a person making a noise with his mouth.[three]
Release and reception [edit]
In 1993, the film was featured in an episode of the satirical film-riffing television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Comedy Cardinal aslope the brusque Circus on Ice.[iv]
Monster a Go-Go! was released with Psyched by the 4-D Witch every bit a DVD double characteristic by Something Weird Video.[5]
The MST3K version of the moving-picture show was released past Rhino Home Video[6] equally part of the Collection, Book 8 DVD set. Allmovie gave the film a negative review, calling it "an breathless concoction brewed solely to fill up space on a double neb"[ix] while TV Guide panned the film, calling it "garbage".[ten]
Dennis Schwartz from Ozus' World Movie Reviews gave the film a negative review. In his review on the motion picture, Schwartz called it "One of the nearly incoherent films ever made considering the plot line can't exist explained rationally nor are the characters conspicuously defined."[11] When reviewing the pic, Horror News.net besides noted the reason backside its negative reputation: "The motion-picture show itself falls into the 'worst' category with not but a lethargic presentation merely with its odd-pieced editing fashion. Some scenes popular in out of nowhere that really don't seem to have much to do with the previous scene. Others are typical conversation scenes that are only edited back and forth in a haphazard mode. I think the pic stands better as a slice to be mocked and laughed at than as a existent piece of important movie theater. In fact, y'all may notice humor in just those elements alone that make the experience one to expect for mistakes, continuity errors and ridiculous logic at times. Why they felt the need that it needed some hipster dance scenes thrown in to sell more tickets is across me. Just the result is so odd that information technology also deserves a express joy. It's classic B-grade miss mash that only has appeal in its disjointed endeavour."[12]
